Peter Tosh's uncollected material
Why is there still so much uncollected Peter Tosh material? The Honorary Citizen boxset was a nice release because it was the first time that some of the jamaican singles, unavailable outside of Jamaica and unknown to many fans, were collected on CD and thus could be heard by everyone. It would be great that one day someone takes the initiative to produce a reissue of all the remaining tracks, instead of the too many "best of" compilations available on the market. For instance, on Honorary Citizen, CD3 was not really necessary and could have been replaced by a CD like CD1 with more jamaican singles. There is enough uncollected material to fill 2 albums.

Such a release could include on CD1 old tracks and alternate versions like Simpleton, You can't fool me again (alternate mix), Little green apples, A little love, Oppressor man, Field marshall, and several others. There would be enough room to add the later tracks that Peter released only in Jamaica like Vampire, You can't blame the youth (later recut), Hammer, Babylon queendom, the alternate mix of Legalize it with the organ, and so on. And a second CD could include all the dub versions of tracks like Here comes the judge, Lion, Here comes the sun, Mark of the beast, Leave my business, Arise blackman, Burial, African, the alternate dub of Vampire, Brand new second hand, etc... What a great 2 CD set it would be! The icing on the cake would be the fabulous original version of Lessons in my life from the Bush Doctor sessions, released on a rare single in 1979 and still uncollected on CD to this day.

I wonder why it has never been done? Maybe that a record company could release something like that to mark the 15th anniversary of Peter's death this year? You never know. Or make the Mystic man album available more easily, as so far it is only available on a hard to find import german CD, unless you can find a secondhand copy of the LP. Fingers crossed.
